December 21, 2012 is upon us.

And, this might just be the last blog you’ll ever read.

I know what you’re thinking…it’s kind of ironic…you are an insurance agency, insuring people’s livelihood. Then, December 21st comes…and WHAM!!!

How do you insure that?

In any case, let’s say the Mayans were right. Should the earth spin off into vacuous space on this day…how will you and your agency be remembered? Imagine its December 20, 2012…and, you have 24 hours to show the world you are THE insurance agency of choice. And, for that one, shining day, you would validate to your clients exactly why they should remember your agency.

I know what you’re thinking… “If not a soul is left on earth come December 22nd…then how would anyone be able to remember my agency?”

Stay with me now…

Ask yourself…how would you describe your agency?

Is your agency…

Caring?

Honest?

Professional?

Trustworthy?

Philanthropic?

Knowledgeable?

The list could go on and on. It’s a great question…just how would you define your agency?

Again, I know what you’re thinking…”I’d rather spend December 20th with my family, or playing golf, or ratcheting up my credit card debt…or, walking along the shores of a beautiful Florida beach.”

Stay focused…

You can still leave your mark in the morning, and play that round of golf in the afternoon. December 20th is a long, long day. And, you have lots of work still left to do. So, fast forward…you’ve pondered the question…you’ve prepared…and, you’ve demonstrated to your clients the “why.”

The why…as in why they should remember you and your agency.

Alas, the 21st comes and goes with little fanfare…the Mayans were wrong…the earth doesn’t start spinning in the opposite direction and flying off into space. In fact, our world keeps turning, the sun comes up on the 22nd, and life goes on.

So, now…you’ve met the challenge of leaving your professional mark. A mark of remembrance…a mark that will last in the minds of your clients for years to come.

Based on all of that preparation, ask yourself…

What does your community think of your agency?

What do your clients think of your agency?

What do you…think of your agency?

The Mayans…bless their hearts…put a date out there for each of us to look forward to. Whether you admit it or not, we all have mentally placed that date in our heads and have been preparing for years…just to see what happens on that bizarre day. We are intrigued, silently cautious and most of us are noticeably optimistic that this is going to be just another day…that the world will not end on December 21st. We know that our earth will continue to thrive for many, many, many more years.

As we move on from that date forward, we should prepare for each and every day as December 20th…the day prior to that significant day on the calendar. Because, if we did, we would most assuredly and consistently remind ourselves about what our community and our clients think of us…better yet, we will have a brand new perspective on ourselves. And, we’d start to look at our agency as our clients look at our agency.

You see, our professional mark is our brand…it is our image…it is what reminds everyone of who we are and what we stand for. A daily reminder is a good thing…it helps keep everyone focused on the fact that each day is a gift.
